UNDERSTANDING WHY GOD HOLDS US SEXUALLY ACCOUNTABLE-----THIS IS PART THREE IN THIS SERIES- Our sexuality is a very powerful part of our lives, physically, emotionally and even spiritually.  Because the sexual desires of most individuals is so powerful God had to put boundaries on it to protect all involved from both abuse and self victimization.  People tend to think that God disapproves of sex, or at least that He's not concerned about our enjoyment of this gift.

This isn't true at all.  Remember it was His idea in the first place. What God disapproves of is the misuse of sex.  Because it is so powerful, physically, mentally and even spiritually it has the power to destroy people as well as create new life.   It is this very thing that God wanted to protect us from.

In coming to terms, in regards to why God holds us sexually accountable on such high level, the following verse, gives us some key information. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.  Gen 1:27-28

First of all we are told that God created us in His likeness.  Though we are not God, He bestowed upon us and in us, many of His traits.  When God created Adam and Eve by divine design God created man on a level which bestowed upon him, observant and comprehension skills, which were virtually a parallel image of His (God’s) own.

Secondly God bestowed upon us a unalterable male female DNA identity.  Thirdly, because God created us on a much higher level than any other earthly creature, He gave us the authority and dominion over all the other earthly creatures.  I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.  Psalm 139:14.

When God created the parents of us all, (Adam and Eve), He endowed them with the following,   1. Conscience, the ability to morally grasp ones conduct,  (sensitivity to the voice of God),  2. Intellect, Thought, imagination, (creativity),   3. Free Choice, (the right and ability to choose), and  4. Desire (including sexual). The ability to experience a sense of longing for a person or object,  or hope for a certain  outcome. Including in our desires, was our sexual desires.   5.  The ability to both trust Him and obey Him, (IF we so chose to).

Out of all of these traits it is the conscience, that God placed in us, which makes us sexually accountable in the sight of God.

WHAT IS THE CONSCIENCE?  The Greek word for conscience (suneidesis) literally means to possess “co-knowledge” of something resulting in one’s “sense of guiltiness before God. Thus, we were created with a unique and intrinsic faculty that gives us a kind of third-person perspective on the rightness and wrongness of our actions. The word con-science means “to know with” or “to have knowledge.”

It is that hidden part of the human soul which most reflects (like a mirror) the likeness of the Creator. It is the “common denominator” in all human beings that binds us together as a unique creation and distinguishes us from all the rest of creation.

It causes us to hold something in common with each other despite all the many differences.  The conscience is the inner voice of God within each person.    It is the self-reflecting, judicial power in mankind by which God can call every man or woman to account. If we are absolutely honest with ourselves, our conscience will let us know what we are really like, passing perfect judgment on our state before God.

By divine design there are several key aspects about our personage, that our conscience will sound an alarm, when there’s a potential problem.   They area are, 1.Our conduct, 2. Our character, and 3. Our state of being. In the physical realm, the conscience is comparable to the human nervous system. When a person is wounded, he feels pain—the body’s inherent means of alerting him that something is wrong.

Likewise, when a person sins, the human soul has a warning system that sounds an alarm because the person’s actions have wounded him spiritually. This soul-alarm trumpets, “Mayday! Mayday! Something is wrong!” He senses that his actions are not only wrong but will also result in destructive consequences. God designed our conscience to be the seat of our sense of knowing  right and wrong.  The place from which we can feel guilt and express remorse. Another way to describe the conscience, is that of it being a  thought, imagination, and conduct police.

James tells us,   Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”   James 4:17.   The conscience that God placed in us allows us to distinguish between right and wrong.   The intellect He placed in us allows us to understand the consequences of our actions.  The ability to make a conscience choice to change or remain as we are, allows us to repent of our ways if we so choose.  It is these and similar abilities that God placed in us, that makes us both accountable and judgeable in the sight of God.

The ability to make an intelligent choice--

When God created us, He did not make robots,  nor did He design us as animals who merely functioned on basic instincts. To show how unique Adam and Eve were, it was to them  alone that God said the following. “Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.  Gen 2:16-17.

In essence God was reasoning with Adam and Eve, based on the fact that He knew that He had bestowed upon them the ability to make an intelligent choice.  Thus they clearly understood what God was saying, and the ramifications of their actions. Compare,
1. You are free to choose,  2. You can eat of all trees but one.  3. If you eat of that tree, 4. You will die.

Had God given these instructions and warnings  to any of His other creatures, they were not designed in such a way to respond, as Adam.   For example had God spoke these words to a dog, all the dog could do at best was bark.  But Adam and Eve were designed by God to do more than just bark. By divine design they were created  to function on a much higher level.

The Bible makes it clear that God holds us accountable, in regards to how we conduct ourselves sexually.   Though many may understand the concept of sexual accountability,  many struggle with the warning and example in scriptures of those who continually sexually transgress and refuse to repent.

When it comes to our conduct, our character, and our state of being, (SEXUALLY SPEAKING), the scriptures makes it crystal clear,  that we ALL have two upcoming appointments.  "It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:"  Heb 9:27.      Many today struggle with the concept of judgment and accountability.

Contrary to what many think,  no one wants us to have a more abundant, enjoyable, and fulfilling life than our divine creator.   God wants us to enjoy life, but He warns that He will hold us accountable for the way we live.   Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth, and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth. And walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes; but know thou that for all these things, God will bring thee into judgment.  Eccl 11:9.

Someone once said that our sexual passions is like fire,  in a fireplace: As we know fire can warm us, when contained in a fire place.  And when confined to a stove-top  it can cook our food, but when not contained or controlled, it can burn our house down.

In the New Testament, the word most often translated “sexual immorality”  (fornication)  is  PORNEIA.  It is from this Greek word we get the English word pornography.  This word is also translated as “whoredom,” and “idolatry.”  We are told to avoid this lifestyle at all cost, "

18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.  20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."  1st cor 6:10-20

Many today scoff at the notion of being sexually accountable to anyone else, other than their own sexual cravings.  In fact much of what the Bible defines as "Fornication/whoremonering"  is now being celebrated as being a wholesome civil right.   This includes adultery, homosexuality, incest, orgies, voyeuristic sexual activity, etc.  We are clearly warned about the dire consequences of fornication, in all of its many forms.

Rather than fearing the coming judgment of God, we are now seeing the porn lifestyle being promoted in the highest levels of government.   A notable example of this celebratory endorsement, of what the Bible defines as sexual misconduct, was the White House being lit up in rainbow colors.  This was done as a way to show support for the LGBTQ lifestyle.

The President  issued the following statement, “Justice has arrived like a thunderbolt for gay and lesbian couples.  Today, we can say in no uncertain terms that we have made our union a little more perfect,“    The White House also issued the following statement.

“Tonight, the White House was lit to demonstrate our unwavering commitment to progress and equality, here in America and around the world.
The pride colors reflect the diversity of the LGBT community, and tonight, these colors celebrate
a new chapter in the history of American civil rights.”

It is sad that the conscience of many in our society has been so hardened, sexual acts of every description are now classed as wholesome civil rights.  Paul  noted  that in the end times many would harden themselves to their own conscience. (thereby the voice of God).   Speaking lies in hypocrisy;  and having their conscience seared with a hot iron;  1st Tim. 4:2.

As anyone who has ever visited a porn site can attest, the same sexual activity that is being promoted as a whosome civil right, is the exact same acts which are listed as "sexual fetuses."     How confusing this must be for today's younger generation.

God designed sex in such a way, as to allow it to be enjoyable, within the bonds of marriage.  In the scriptures the Bible defines sexual activity, outside the bonds of marriage as  "whoremongering."   Not only are we told of the coming day of judgment of those who refuse to repent and turn away from the various modes of sexual misconduct, but John was shown th actual day of judgment.   In this vision John tells us he saw unrepentant whoremongers being cast into the lake of fire. Compare

He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.  Rev 21:7-8.  Compare.
