God truly does love us therefore He seeks to call us to Himself,  He seeks to convict our hearts,  He will correct and chastise us when we are wrong. In order to save us from His coming wrath.  But there comes a time when it becomes apparent that we are totally rejecting God’s efforts.  Therefore God gives up and gives us over to ourselves.

Compare what he said in the book of Jeremiah,   “Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee”.  Jer 7:2-16.  How could a people become so wicked in he sight of God, that he tells the prophet to not pray for them, and if he does pray for them, He (God) would not hear? There does come a time, when after God has, called and called, and called , and we continually ignore him, he stops trying to call, convict and correct us. This should cause each of us to stop and think.  (Compare God's message to those who continually ignore Him, below).

24 But since you refuse to listen when I call  and no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand, 25 since you disregard all my advice and do not accept my rebuke, 26 I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you;  I will mock when calamity overtakes you  27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm,  when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you. 28 “Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me, 29 since they hated knowledge   and did not choose to fear the Lord. 30 Since they would not accept my advice  and spurned my rebuke,31 they will eat the fruit of their ways  Proverbs 1:24-30 (NIV).

When we use the term "when God gives up" we are not implying in any way that God gives up on being who he is.  God has been, is, and always will be God almighty.  The Bible declares of God "2Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God." Psalm 90:2.  God does not give up on being who he is. The Bible does warn us,  by both word and example, that there comes a time when God will give up on trying to call, convict, correct and change those in our society, who continually ignore his voice.

We would like to explain from the outset, of this study, God loves us all and he is very longsuffering toward us, because it's not his will for any of us to be lost.    9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2nd Pet 3:9. Therefore it is not our call to say who God has given up on, or the exact moment God does give up a person.  This is between God and the individual. However the Bible does warn that God will not always try to change a person, who has determined in their heart, they don't want to ever change.   At the beginning of part two of this study, we tell you the main reason why God gives up.

We could have just have easily have named this book "WHEN MAN GIVES UP ON GOD", because in reality this is exactly what many have done.   God in His perfect wisdom is very much aware of the fact that our society is more and more pushing him aside.  There does come a time, when after God has, called and called, and called , and we continually ignore him, he stops calling us.  There comes a time when after God has time after time after time, tried to convict us (make us feel guilt and shame) about our sins, and we reject any real sense of guilt and shame, He stops trying to convict us.   Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the Lord, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward. Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. Isaiah 1:4-5.    We have often heard the phrase "pray and don't give up" but in an astonishing turn of events, God told Jeremiah to not pray for the people.   God went even further and told the prophet, if he did pray for them He would not answer his prayers.  Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee."  Jer 7:2-16.  How could a people become so wicked in his sight of God, that he tells the prophet to not pray for them, and if he does pray for them, He (God) would not hear?
