I recently taught from my book,  "SAVED FROM WHAT?" you are welcome to a free copy of this fifty page book by simply emailing me and telling me where to send it.  All I ask is that you please pay the $5.00 mailing fee.  If you can't afford to pay for the mailing, please let me know and I will still send you the book.  (ourstickmanpubs@hotmail.com).  Many people today fail to understand, just exactly what Christ came to save us from.  While on earth Jesus explained that he came to save us from God's coming wrath.  This coming wrath is described by John as being a lake of fire which never goes out (what we often refer to as "Hell").  In the words of a well known theologian, in regards to man's modern day concept of hell, as opposed to what the Bible says about hell. "Countless people among us seem obsessed with the subject of hell. Even irreligious individuals talk of "going to hell and back" for something they love. They speak of certainties as being "sure as hell," or impossibilities as occurring when "hell freezes over." And bad experiences are said to "hurt like hell." Many otherwise polite people regularly inject color, emotion, and profanity into their conversation by adding a casual or angry reference to hell to almost any combination of words.  Yet ironically, the more hellshows up in casual conversation, the less it is actually thought about -- even in religious circles. The more such a word is used in an aggressive, profane way, the less threatening it seems to the user. Accordingly, the subject of hell has become as present in street talk as it is absent in Sunday sermons."   Is there is really a Hell,??  The word "Hell" is one of the most often used words in our society, yet is one of the most misunderstood words. Many people do not really consider Hell a real place because (in their mind) God is "too loving" to ever have created such an abode. Others would say that Hell exists only "on earth" with reference to some particular place or situation. The question is, "Is there really a place of torment called Hell?" Hell is clearly taught in the Bible. In fact, it was Jesus who taught more on the subject than anyone else in the entire Scriptures!  Jesus tells us what God's original plans and intents for Hell were.  Christ tells us,  Hell was originally created for angels who had sinned. Jesus said in Matthew 25:41, when referring to the judgment of the wicked, ". . .Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire (Hell) prepared for the devil and his angels." In the book of 2nd Peter, Chapter 2, Verse 4 we read that, ". . .God did not spare the angels when they sinned, but sent them to Hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment." Hell, therefore, was originally created, as a holding place,  for the first sinners in the universe, Satan and his angels, rather than for man. But since hell was designed as a place for "sinners," man became eligible when he joined the fallen angels in sin."   (These observations were made by Martin R. De Haan II ).  One writer put it this way " One of Satan's favorite lies is to try to convince people that they suffer their hell on earth and that there is no hell or lake of fire  hereafter. He also tries to get them to believe the lie that death only brings a state of sleep or rest. Another doctrine teaches that hell is only temporary and eventually after being in the lake of fire,  people become cleansed and purified to the degree that they will then be accepted into heaven. These terrible heresies are believed by many Christians who are ignorant of what God's Word has to say about it. Cults such as the Jehovah's witness, also teach that hell is a place where sinful souls are simply annihilated and therefore no longer exist. Some teach reincarnation, giving people another chance to be born on this earth for as many times as it takes to become purified, progressing to higher forms each time they return. Others say hell is only a place away from God, but it is not a literal burning fiery hell. All of these are lies of Satan to cause people to minimize the reality of hell. What does the Bible say about hell? To make a point, Jesus described this place as such a place of horror, pain, and suffering,  that it would be better to sever a member of our body that would lead us there, than to end up in that place of torments.  "And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched'' (Mark 9:43-48).  If the reality and eternity of hell was not real, Jesus would not have stresses the importance of staying out of this place with such strong language. We don't have to cut our limbs or pluck out our eyes to be free from hell, Jesus made a way for us to escape this evil through our repentance and acceptance of what He did for us on the cross when He died for us on the cross.  The lake of fire is a place where many will spend eternity, the bible clearly says the fire never goes out.  In these verses, we see a total of three times, where  Jesus stressed this point "the fire is not quenched'' .
